Close to My Heart Leadership at Disneyland Hotel

Close to My Heart offered us the chance to attend a fabulous leadership prior to the Annual National Convention in sunny California at the Disneyland Hotel! What an absolutely perfect setting for their convention! The Disney Institute is perfectly aligned with Close to My Heart's philosophy! The setting was perfect!

I drove from Las Vegas and found my 8 roommates (we had adjoining rooms in the Adventure Tower) standing on the curb laughing at me while the poor bell boy Larry offered to "do anything I wanted" while they stood "lending their support" which consisted of heckling, laughing and photographing Larry and I unpacking my Attitude truck while they enjoyed themselves at our expense.

Our room was seriously luxurious and slept five as it had a daybed and refrigerator. Our headboard played "A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes" and lit up with sparkle lights. How perfect!! Not only was the setting perfect, but Disney gave the convention discounted rooms and Park TICKET rates!! We also got INSTANT fast passes which were the BOMB!!

I have achieved the title of Executive Director so I get spoiled a little. Close to My Heart wants to motivate everyone in the company to reach the management level of Director and above so we get some perks like: Directors get special seating, Executive Directors and above get reserved seating with our name and photo on the seat, our seats are draped and this year the Executive Directors had a green bow. I got to sit on the front row again. Executive Directors and above also get an exclusive invitation to a Presidential Luncheon with Jeanette Lynton, CEO of the company. We received an exclusive Mickey Mouse snowglobe at the reception. When we registered Executive Director's also received an exclusive Minnie Mouse Lanyard, it's so cute!! All the Directors were invited to a Director's dinner in the Sleeping Beauty pavilion where we were surprised to find Mickey Mouse ears with our names on them. We also received a handmade card from Jeanette along with a Twilight Pass to California Adventure where we had reserved seating for World of Color. They even gave us Mickey Mouse shaped rice crispy treats to enjoy at World of Color, they think of everything!

One of my first downline, Pamela O'Conner was a first time Director, and she was amazed by all the Director perks! I hope my entire team strives to be Directors for next year's convention at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX, July 11 (Leadership) and July 12-14 (Stars Shine Bright CTMH Convention).

Our keynote speaker, Mary Flynn, was GREAT!! She shared with us that Disney has experienced turbulent times and has been in business for over 80 years!! I have been a long time fan of Disney and that LOVE has been renewed hearing their philosphy, they are simply amazing! Close to My Heart is really closely aligned with the Disney Institute! What an amazing blessing to be a consultant for 20 years!!

Here is the page I made using the Sweetheart Kit in Studio J online design studio. I used the pattern from our idea book Imagine, "Up the Tempo." The Kit mix is #3. This is a quick 30-minute layout!!

This is ONE of the times we went to see Donny Osmond in concert here in Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel & Casino. Laura and I took our daughters and it was SO much fun, he even held my daughters hand. This also happens to be the night that I met Harry Wiltse, isn't that funny?

The techniques I used on this page are:

Changing the color of the polka dot texture paper to black and then changing the intensity to 30% (just click on the paper and a popup window opens, drag the intensity bar down to 30%)
Change the color of the cardstock
Change the journaling well to white cardstock so that I could put My Stickease flower in it instead.
Adding mats to the photo wells
Adding a text box to the top right corner and then dropping in texture paper (click on it and dragging texture paper to fill it)]
Creating titles in different fonts
Using the edge of a mystickease frame to make "lace" on the edge of a photomat (click on it and send it to the back)

FUN, FAST, and FABULOUS!!! I can't believe how young the girls look, what a difference five years make, we need to take them to see the Donny & Marie show and see if they like it as much as they liked seeing Donny!!

Have you celebrated being a woman by being a Memory Keeper?

I am proud to be the memory keeper in our family. I love making memories and recording them in Studio J so that my children can keep the memories fresh and alive! They are the reason I celebrate being a woman/mother! And the page was SUPPOSED to say the family name but I don't have the same last name as my kids so that doesn't really work for us, I love being able to make the text say whatever I want it to and in Studio J you don't run out of vowels because they are ENDLESS!! WOOT WOOT!!!

This is another one of the layouts we made at Studio J Boot Camp.

This layout features the Kit Take the Cake (it's an exclusive kit available only to customers who purchase a membership--one of the membership benefits). Colors are Chocolate, Lagoon, Sunset, and White Daisy.

If you love this pattern, you can recreate it classically using the pattern, Portrait Collection. The kit mix is #6 in the design Studio.

Some techniques I used to create it are:

Adding text boxes to the bottom of photos to create a "polaroid" look
Creating titles in different fonts
Resizing those CUTE CUTE CUTE my stickease family figures (GOTTA LOVE THEM, you can't see them but they have a tone on tone pattern, LOVE THEM!!)
Layering the My Stickease frame at the top right hand corner
Distressing the cardstock and texture paper
Adding a text box and then changing it to paper (add the text box and then click on it and a pop up window appears, drag paper into the box--SO COOL!)

I just spent a whirlwind two days at a boot camp for Studio J, learning the ins and outs of using the design studio and advanced techniques for making scrapbook pages (at least they were advanced to me)! I have used Studio J quite a bit to catch up on vacation albums but I hadn't really explored it in depth!

It knocked my socks off!! WOW!! There are simply NO limits to the creative things you can do in Studio J.

When they named it boot camp I thought it was a joke but seriously, it was Boot camp, we worked from 8 a.m. the first day til midnight, we even worked through dinner because we were so excited and engrossed in all the techniques. We created 9-10 layouts and submitted them and they printed them and delivered them to us the next day. I'll be sharing my layouts this week and my favorite tips.

This layout was created to be the cover of the album and the last page of the album, so the pictures don't really go together. Most of the photos I used for Boot Camp were of a Cruise that I earned FREE from Close to My Heart in 2004. I earned two free cruises from Close to My Heart and I took my children and my Mom on a Carribbean Cruise.

A few of the techniques I applied to this layout are:
*resizing MyStickease (the sticker accents, when you scrapbook classically you only get the choice of one size, the sizes are unlimited in the design studio and you never run out of embellishments!)
*moving MyStickease in front of and behind other accents (you click on the My Stickease and a popup window will appear and use the option send to back)
*changing patterned paper to tone-on-tone patterns instead (click on the pattern and a popup window will appear and then simply choose a color to match your photos, AMAZING! You can make any patterned paper any color you want!)
*changing the intensity of color on papers (Click on any paper and a pop up window will appear, click on the color and move the slider)
*changing the color of a brad (choose a brad and then choose a color)
*distressing the edges of papers with inks digitally

Leadershare In Las Vegas

I had the privilege of attending a local team meeting that was held jointly by my upline Karen Morris and the Close to My Heart corporate office. The night before I dragged a fun group of my team members, customers, and friends to Stoney's for free line dancing lessons and then we stayed to dance the night away (a few brought their hubby's and played pool as well). We all had a blast and not a lot of sleep!!

During Leadershare we had swaps, an art contest and raised over $1300 for operation smile, that's FOUR operations for kids with cleft palates!! WAY TO GO Dream Team!! In addition, We had two create and take projects, a cube and a layout, and I was invited to eat lunch with the Executive Team. We had an awesome weekend!! (I'll share the art in more posts)

At the conclusion of the team meeting Karen Morris gave out awards that were provided by the corporate office. A few of the awards were received by members of my team, Stamper's with an Attitude!! Here are my awards along with the awards received by my team members!!

Close to My Heart Corsages

When I attended Close to My Heart's Team Builders Conference in Salt Lake City in January, they gave us a pretty corsage made with ribbon and embellishments. I decided to use this as my stamp camp contest. I gave each camper a scallop of cardstock cut with our new scallop punch and told them to use all the embellishments and Close to My Heart ribbons I threw on the table to create a corsage/hairpin. Then we voted on our favorite. Judy's beautiful hairpin won. They are all different, and individual just like the campers and there are things that I love about each person and corsage! Enjoy! Spring Stamp Camp

Today is the kickoff of my team Spring Stamp Camp! Team members came from Kansas, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada to meet at my home to craft for the weekend. Most of out town consultants were brave enough to stay at my home. However, any of them that arrived last night were pressed into service to help prepare table gifts that will be revealed in more posts.

We started out the morning with a team meeting. Pam O'Conner was the star of the meeting because she was the top seller in my firstline during January with personal sales of over $1700. She got to wear a tiara while we all cheered for her. It was fun for Pam and all of us that she was in attenandance at today's meeting as it was her first ever team meeting as she lives in Texas.

Judy taught us how to make a paper pleat and an accordian fan flower. She made these cute composition notebook purses for all of us as table gifts, and we embellished them with our paper pleat and accordian fan flower that we made after her demonstration. THANKS Judy! You ROCK!!

Stardust Wizards in Training Tutor Acrylic & All Sorts Album Combo

The leaders of the 21st Century Grant at Whitney Elementary asked me to "do something" with the photos of the fun "Wizards in Training" tutors. They want to put the photos on a bulletin board. I took apart an acrylic album and an all sorts album and replaced the binding clips with ribbon knots so that when they are done with the bulletin board they can put the pages back into an album. Here are the awesome teachers that not only teach at Whitney but give of their extra time to help our Whitney Wizards in Training!

I used the Stardust Level 2 kit, and this kit is on the retired list but I have a few still available in my stock. I still have an acrylic album as well so if you can't order it from my website, call or email me and I'll get it to you.

I supplemented the kit with Sunny yellow cardstock to match the bulletin board they had already created and used the blue/green sparkles to bling add some magic and bling it up!

Blair's Wall Hanging

My 17-year-old daughter picked out this project from the Autumn/Winter catalog. She made it at my open house on New Year's Day.

Printing your Photographs

We recently had photographs done by a professional photographer. She sells "photography, not prints". She takes the photos and you guy the photographs you want and get a disc and then print them out. She shared this COOL website, that she recommends. http://www.mpix.com/ She showed me samples of the prints on the metallic paper and it is SO awesome! You will love it, check it out! (The prices are VERY reasonable as well!! An 8x10 print on metallic paper was under $3!! It doesn't get any better than that! They also ship within 24-48 hours! Awesome for someone like me who wants their prints NOW!!

Magnifique Level 2 Class

Monday, January 10, 6:30 p.m.

This class is a Level 2 Scrapbooking class (You will need to be able to measure and cut paper to 1/8" markings, no stamping involved, you will be using stickers and limited embellishments). Ages 14 and up are welcome to attend. No photos are necessary.

The class will be held monthly on a selected day of each month at my home. However, you can schedule this workshop at your own convenience by inviting six or more of your friends and inviting them to your home or mine.

Preregister for the class each month prior to the class by paypaling me with your order so that you'll have the materials available at the class to complete your pages. You'll go home with four pages (two two-page layouts).

Kit includes a Level 2 Kit and a My Stickease Kit as well as any other embellishments I use to complete my layouts.

This class meets at my house, owever, you may choose to invite your friends and schedule your own workshops at our convenience at your home or mine and earn free gifts!!

To register, you need to order the kit by paypaling me $20.00 at kimspapercrafts@gmail.com by October 4 (s/h and tax is included in this total). Kits must be ordered in advance so that you'll have the materials to make the layouts at class. You do not need to bring photos to class. When you paypal I order your supplies, if you do not order by the deadline, I will not have time to order the supplies for you.

If you are unable to attend the workshop on the scheduled date, you can email a request for classes on days of the week that are more convenient for you OR you can order Kits to Go.
Kits to Go (Kits to Go can be ordered to be shipped to your home with instructions to be completed at your own home at your leisure, simply add $7.95 s/h to your order and make sure you put your address in the paypal order box).

Each Kit includes 4 12x12 preprinted pages, 2 12x12 B&T Duos, 2 12x12 cardstock sheets, and 2 6x12 My Stickease Adhesive sheets, 1/2 package of flipflaps, plus any other embellishments I use to complete my pages.

It took me a while, and I've actually owned the Close to My Heart Exclusive Inks Organizer To order your own click here! for a year and only used it when I went to stamp camp, but I've decided that I really, really love it. I love that I can take it apart and use the stamp pad towers or the marker towers when I travel, I love the reinker tray (sold separately) that you can put on top. You can even order a case to carry it in when you go to stamp camp!! :) I'm going to use it exclusively and sell my wood stamp pad storage (it goes on the wall and I like it a lot, but I want wall space). I paid $80 for it, but am selling it for $40. First person to come and get it, and it's yours!!

Zippadee Level 1 Kit

Close to My Heart has seriously done a fabulous job with these level 1 kits. I made these layouts in about five minutes! They were SO easy!

I teach a class every month on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 at my home. I teach the ladies that attend the secret to scrapbooking the Close to My Heart way using Level 1 Kits. To attend, you'll need to preorder a $15.00 kit each month (sh/& tax is included in this total). Kits must be ordered in advance so that you'll have the materials to make the layouts at class. You do not need to bring photos to class.

Each Level 1 Kit includes 4 12x12 preprinted pages, 2 12x12 B&T Duos, 2 12x12 cardstock sheets, and 2 6x12 My Stickease Adhesive sheets, plus any other embellishments I use to complete my pages.

Class is open to ages 14 and up. Ages 8 and up must be accompanied by an adult.

Heartfelt Holiday Stamp Camp

Stamper’s with an Attitude 2nd annual Las Vegas Stamp Camp

(Coaches and invited friends, starting with first downline and returning campers until 18 slots are filled)

Registration Fee: Your nonrefundable registration is $50. Registration fee covers all the consumable supplies provided to make the projects. Money is due in full on August 1. Registration will close on August 20 or when we have 15 attendees. Registration is nonrefundable but you can sell your registration to someone else on our team OR you can participate by mail. You can send me a check (185 Glen Falls Avenue, Henderson, NV 89002) or paypal me at kimspapercrafts@gmail.com.

You can sell your spot to another consultant on our team if you are unable to attend by advertising the spot on our team yahoo group--stampattitude. If you are unable to sell your spot, you will receive all the materials. Registration is first come, first served, open to my first through fifth downline.

Registration is NONREFUNDABLE as $ will be spent according to the number of attendees. Most supplies for the classes will be provided for you, you’ll need to provide your own adhesives and you may want to bring some additional stamp sets and inkpads (you’ll get a list) so that you don’t have to share, but one set will be provided by the teacher. You will be provided the following: Flip Flaps (New assortment); Mix & Mingle Album; New Clear Cards; 6x6 Accordian Album; On Target Dimensional Elements; Christmas Ornament Dimensional Elements.

Only active consultants are allowed to attend, no friends, sisters, or mothers, etc., unless they sign up to be a consultant prior to August 20.

When I receive your registration $, you will be invited to a yahoogroup that is specifically for the holiday stamp camp and you will receive all stamp camp correspondence from this yahoogroup so that we don’t have to bombard stampattitude with our plans.

Secret Sisters (optional): Each person that wants to participate in the secret sister exchange will fill out a questionnaire. You will need to make ONE $15 gift or goodie bag/basket/box for your secret sister and vice versa. Gifts can be organizing tools or altered items and should generally be related to papercrafting. When making a handmade gift, please remember to use CURRENT Close to My Heart products so that we can use them for our business. Everyone wants a handmade gift as they are much more precious than a $15 bag of product. You will be emailed a questionnaire to complete and you will be emailed your secret sisters name/questionnaire prior to stamp camp so you can prepare a nice gift for her.

Silent Auction: If you would like to bring a handstamped/papercrafted item using ONLY Close to My Heart products for our silent auction, we will be holding a silent auction during stamp camp. All proceeds will be donated to Close to My Heart for Operation Smile.

Contest: We will be having a papercraft/handmade/stamped ornament contest. Bring one ornament that you made using CTMH products or that you have altered and stamped. We will vote and the ornament with the most votes will receive a prize (you will go home with your ornament!

Transportation, Lodging, Food: Each camper will need to provide her own lodging, snacks, drinks, transportation, and food. The stamp camp will be held at my home. My entire downstairs is open and I can accommodate quite a crowd downstairs. WARNING: I have three rather large rambunctious dogs (they will be locked outside during stamp camp, but generally they live downstairs where stamp camp occurs, I also have a long-haired car, she lives upstairs and we will keep her locked in my bedroom so if you have allergies, please come prepared). My children leave directly from school to go to their dad’s house for their scheduled visitation (we never really know what will happen with that, so we just carry on and hope for the best) and are not scheduled to return until Sunday after 7:30 p.m. I am going to make a doctor’s appointment for someone in the morning so that I can legitimately take the day off, it’s the second week of school for my kinders and I’ll just have to see how well that is going to judge whether or not I’m taking a half day or an entire day. So I may or may not be home prior to stamp camp starting, so if you plan to arrive early, you may want to find some sights to see (not hard to do in Las Vegas!).

If you are flying into Las Vegas, the airport code is LAS. If you can try to share cabs from the airport to my home, it will save you some $ or try to fly in at the same time as other people so that we can arrange to pick you up all at the same time that would be GREAT! The airport isn’t far but depending on traffic and the time of day can take anywhere from 20 mins to 1 hour each way. Of course when you leave we can just leave at 3:00 from my house and drop everyone off at my house, so please arrange your flights to leave after 5:00 p.m.

Nearby hotels: Last year campers stayed at two separate hotels, they are about equal distance from my home. The Fiesta/Henderson is off the Freeway and is a bigger venue, it’s a hotel/casino/movie theatre and has restaurants and anything you would ever need inside. (Do not do Fiesta/Rancho, it is VERY far away), it is VERY close to my house, I live REALLY close to the freeway but in a part of town removed from everything on the edge of Black Mountain, it’s really quiet. If you like a quieter venue, here is another option, on Boulder Highway, Sue and Trish stayed here last year and gave good reviews, a smaller hotel, FREE breakfast. You travel neighborhood streets from my home to get to Hawthorne Inn. Hawthorn Inn

I have two couches available and if you would like to bring aerobeds, bedding, we have a loft/family room upstairs that is the size of a two-car garage that can sleep a lot of people, however, we only have 2 ½ baths so the showers would have to be on a rotating basis. But it makes stamp camp WAY more affordable if you want to rough it a little. (Another secret about stamp camp at my home—some meals will be provided, so now that you’ve been warned, NO complaints about FREE food or accommodations. Just to warn you, I am not a princess, so I am trying to paint a picture of the reality here so there are NO SURPRISES!)

This class is a Level 2 Scrapbooking class. You will need to be able to measure and cut paper to 1/8" markings. Ages 14 and up are welcome to attend. No photos are necessary.
You'll go home with four pages (two two-page layouts).
Class includes a Level 2 Kit and a My Stickease Kit, and a package of Splendor Designer Brads as well as some ribbon that I used to complete my layout.

You'll need to bring a paper trimmer and adhesive. If you do not have a paper trimmer, you can use one of mine and you can purchase adhesive at the class.

Director's Dinner Cruise

Close to My Heart treated all the Director's to a fabulous night! They planned to take us on buses to a surprise Odyssey Dinner cruise. However, the bed laid, plans, even PAID for, sometimes go awry. The buses did not show up! The events team scrambled and somehow magically managed to get tons of taxis to appear out of nowher at the last second to whisk us to the dock. Unfortunately some of the cab drivers (ours) had no idea WHERE they were going. Our cabbie roared out of the Gaylord parking lot with his windows down going 70 mph. I was sure as I was bouncing around the backseat with Karen Morris that he was determined to be the first cab at the marina. Phil WIlhelm was in the front seat taking picture of us (I was sure Phil wanted to commeorate our last moments in case we didnt live through the experience). It was soon apparent that the cab driver had no idea where we were going. Karen, my ever resourceful upline, called Monica and got directions, and soon our cab driver stopped at a deserted seedy location and announced we had arrived to "get out." We looked around dubiously for our CTMH friends and didn't see ANYONE and refused to get out (LOL). I think Phil even locked the doors. Karen got on her cell phone to Monica and Phil got on his cell phone to Brianna (what WOULD we do withour our cell phones?) Brianna saved the day as she ran her cell phone over to her taxi driver who told our cabbie driver his GPS directions (thank heaven for technology). We arrived (LATE) but safely (except for our hairdos) at the RIGHT dock! (Our photo shows how disheleved and HOT we were from the drive at 70 mph with the windows down in the middle of a heat wave in Washington, DC with a crazy cab driver! The story gets better though, unbeknowst to us, Monica had to BEG the captain of the ship to hold the boat for our cab and two other cabs that ended up in Alexandria, VA, and he wasn't happy. Thanks bunches to Monica and the entire events team for planning and saving our dinner cruise for us, it was fabulous and extremely yummy! At our seats we each had a fan from Oddyssey Cruise line along with a stamp set and card from Jeanette. We got to enjoy a plated meal and choose from four appetizers, four main dishes, and four desserts. Karen Morris and I both chose a shrimp and scallop melange, mojito salmon, and a peach, berry cobbler for desert. The cruise went down the Potomac River past the George Washington Masonic National Monument, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Old Town Alexandria, a Torpedo Factory, the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Curtis Lee Mansion, Lincoln Memorial, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Watergate Hotel, Roosevelt Island, and Arlington Cemetery. When we exited the boat our waiters gave us a strawberry handdipped in chocolate! YUM!! Somehow the events team had lined up a new line of buses to take us home or on a drive around the National Mall. Close to My Heart thinks of everything to make the directors feel special! WOW!!

It's so stinking fun to be a Director/Executive Director, ALL of the time, but ESPECIALLY at Close to My Heart Events. As Directors we had our own registration kiosk! We had our own entry door to the general session room, complete with red carpet!

I am an executive director, so my name tag came on a hand beaded lanyard. It was BEAUTIFUL!! LOVE IT!!

In general sessions we have reserved seating. The convention theme this year is "Picture This" so they put our pictures on our seats (alphabetical order). Executive Directors get front row, center seats! FUN!! They have the best ideas!

In addition, all executive directors were invited to a presidential luncheon with Jeanette. We were presented with these beautiful handmade bracelets made especially for convention with the convention logos. It was so nice to be in an intimate setting with Jeanette with a special luncheon, let alone a beautiful gift!!

In addition, Sr. Executive Directors got a TON of new products at the opening ceremony! I can't wait to be one again! They were showered with gifts!! Close to My Heart is so good to us!

After the opening ceremony all the consultants go to go get their Convention bags, all of us with the title of director and above got our bags delivered to us in our seats. (The keynote speaker said she saw these bags on Rodeo Drive but I doubt it since they are lined with custom lining that says Close to My Heart. They are roomy, at least 24" wide!!) Our bags were designated Director's as they had a vineyard berry scarf with a bling crown pendant on them and the new catalog inside! Close to My Heart really treated us like queens! :)

Convention 2010 Team Meeting

Day One of our convention was leadership, managers and above were invited to attend a day long training. Afterwards, we held our team meeting. Our meeting was held in conjunciton with my upline, Karen Morris and Sr. Executive Directors and Executive Directors on her team. We had a blast!! Pam O'Conner and Katy Donaldson represented our team in The Newlywed Game, Close to My Heart style! Our MILLION Dollar Team members were recognized for their achievements! WAY TO GO Stamper's with an Attitude!!

I used Cherry-O to scrapbook the night I first met Harry's family, it was my birthday, we went to Utah. They surprised me with a party (how embarrassing to meet your inlaws at a party for yourself? LOL! They even got me a carrot cake, I LOVE carrot cake (with nuts). YUMMY!!

The other two pages I used to showcase the days of our early marriage. We all took Tai Kwon Do from Master Gietelman in Summerlin. I was sore every single week, it KILLED my knees but it was fun! I really enjoyed those nights with the family but the kids didn't want to take them anymore, my knees were relieved, but I miss those days when I wasn't teaching, I was staying home, doing Close to My Heart parties and enjoying life, it wasn't as crazy as it is now!

Whenever I look at these pictures of Harry my heart melts. Even after the last four years of struggles in life, I still think he's a good-looking guy, he's my hunk of burning love husband! <3

There were two Tyler's in his fifth grade classroom, so his teacher, Ms. Rainwater dubbed him TK. When he was in high school, and a cool band kid, it somehow evolved to Teekay, and it stuck..... The You Rock paper just screamed Tyler to me! I didn't use ANYTHING else on these layouts except I sponged a little bit of Outdoor Denim ink around the edge and foam mounted some of the My stickease.

STUDIO J, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! YIPPEE!!!

Do you have your calendar handy? How about a red pen? No? Well, I'll wait a minute while you grab one. Got them? I hope so because this is a RED LETTER DAY...as in Letter "J." Studio J that is!

I am here to announce (horns and trumpets please) the customer release date of Close To My Heart's AMAZING new online scrapbooking program, Studio J. The 2 layouts you see here (click on either to see them larger) were made by little old me during our consultant testing period. (I am NOT the greatest photographer but working on a homemade photo studio to make the photos of my art better--more to come on that later, so sorry about the glare, but I made my Studio J layouts INTERACTIVE--more to come on that later as well--there will always be more with me.....) What I LOVE other than FREE play time is that I can make ONE album online and purchase as many copies as I want, for instance, I can make one album of my grandparents and then buy or (ahem, sell copies to all of my cousins.... tee hee, LOVE YOU ALL! <3) or my siblings, etc. Or make one album and gift copies as gifts (see I am hard pressed to make duplicate albums as gifts for a lot of people but make ONE and buy multiples, THAT even I CAN DO!! Work smarter, not harder, that is ME to a TEE!! The other thing is that for all those vacations (like the one here (my daughter marched in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland last year with her high school band and she took 300 photos a day)) that sit in my photo drawers because there are so many photos that I keep putting off scrapbooking, I can now sit down and scrapbook them online and get them done faster, simpler, and easier, and I WILL do it!! It's another option for me to ADD to my traditional scrapbooking!

To answer a few commonly asked questions:

Q: Well, get on with it Kim. When is the flipping (maybe you are more of a lady than me and didn't say "flipping") release date?

Q: I LOVE traditional scrapbooking. Will Studio J take away from that?
A: Absolutely NOT! There is room for both in your life. I am living proof. I love them both for totally different reasons. I love the artistic feel of hands on paper and embellishments. I love the speed and ease and professional look of Studio J. Plus, you can always order Studio layouts and then add a few 'lumpy bumpies' of your own once they come if you have a serious need to do the tactile thing.

Q: I am not a traditional kind of scrapbooker. I have been scrapbooking digitally for years. Is Studio J something that I will like?

Got Lumps? Even if you don't--Get a Mammogram!!

I got my fourth biopsy results today and they are benign!! YIPPEE!! I hope EVERYONE gets a yearly mammogram! I KNOW they are inconvenient and cumbersome, but they can SAVE your life! I know a few wonderful ladies who are survivors and even though I haven't had breast cancer, I certainly have had the SCARE!! AND even though a few friends (and they know who they are) have watched me have biopsy after biopsy THEY STILL HAVEN'T HAD their first mammogram!!

I'll share by story so you can see how important getting a mammogram is. I have NEVER found or really felt a lump, but I've had one removed. I had my very first mammogram in 2002, late, of course, because who has one the very second they turn 35? I waited until I was 36 to even think about it and then my doctor gave me a referral and then I got around to it and in June when I was driving to a Close to my Heart convention and Ginger and Keri were in my car, I answered my cell phone (because everything important in my life can be connected to Close to My Heart in some way or another), and it was the doctors office calling to tell me there was some suspicious areas in my mammogram and that I needed to come back in..... Now this is NOT a good thing to hear on a cell phone when you are driving..... In 2002 things moved VERY slowly, it took approximately 8 months to get from that phone call through another mammogram to a visit with a surgeon who was perplexed because there was no lump to finding myself laying on a table with my left breast through a hole having a stereotactic biopsy (from underneath) which was much more taxing procedure (probably emotionally) than I anticipated having driven myself, wishing I had someone with me for moral support and to drive me home so if you get to do that, TAKE SOMEONE. I got my first metal "marker." The results were benign, I have calcifications, "sprinkles", no lumps in my left breast.

Meantime, I've had mammograms in between, sometimes on time, sometimes not really on time, but sort of once per year. In 2007 my insurance made me go to Desert Radiology. They called me and made me go back TWICE for compression tests (a worse mammogram---LOL!) The second technician was RUDE (my opinion of course) and said, "Have your breasts always been this small?" WTH? What was I supposed to say to that? Umm,.... "Well,t hey were smaller when I was born?" "When I get REALLY fat, they plump up a bit?" "My cousin always says when I loose weight he can tell because the first thing to go is my boobs?" "When I nursed all four babies, they got a tiny bit bigger when they were full of milk?" "Are technicians REALLY allowed to comment on breasts they are smashing?" When I had to go back for the SECOND compression test I told the technician about the remarks and she was appalled, maybe that's why they never called me back for most tests. LOL!!

In 2008, LifeSigns offered FREE mammograms for Teachers during November so I went there. By this time I am a bit more experienced with mammograms and expecting to perhaps get a call afterwards or have to get another test. It was such a nice experience, it was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and they had bagels and pink creme cheese and strawberries and water and nice fluffy luxurious robes to wear. WOW!! What a difference from waiting forever in the waiting room at Desert Radiology and being humiliated by a technician. Then I got a call...... You need to go to West Valley Imaging and have an ultrasound, how fast can you get there? Now, this is QUITE a departure from my experience in 2002, they got me in for a different test DAILY, in fact, they would do a test, the technician at West Valley Imaging would take it to the doctor and come back and tell me, come back tomorrow and we are going to do...... I had compression tests, ultrasounds, miralumas, etc., ending in another biopsy. However this biopsy was done laying on my back under ultrasound and was not NEAR as traumatic (emotionally at least for me) as the first one, but I could feel the needle hitting the "lump" that I have this time even though I cannot feel it with my fingers, I could feel "it" resisting the needle. The results came back benign.

In 2009 LifeSigns offered FREE mammograms for Teachers again during November so remembering the great experience I had last November I went again....... I arrived for my appointment, everything had changed, no bagels, no creme cheese, darn, Kassidy had gone with me she wanted the treats, she was so sad. AND when the doctor saw my charts, REFUSED to do the mammogram. He was like, YOU NEED MORE HELP than I can give you here, you need diagnostic mammograms and I am not doing you. Basically I got KICKED out of a mammogram. (I am starting to get a complex about mammograms.....)

So I went back to West Valley Imaging. .... THIS time, they did ONE mammogram, came back immediately and said, the lump has grown, you need to see a surgeon and have it removed immediately and have it biopsied. She showed me where the lump was and now that I KNOW where it is, I can finally feel it. She said, "Go get a referral from your OB/GYN to see a surgeon and have it removed right away." So I got a referral from my OB/GYN, whom I loved to DEATH, and ended up going to see Dr. Josephine Spotts. Dr. Spotts looks like a character from a Lemony Snicket book (remember I teach Kindergarten and LOVE children's literature, so there you go), she is tall, thin, with dark spiky hair, I LOVE HER! She is no nonsense and looks over her specs at you. It's sort of an eiery feeling to be in her office because you KNOW that almost every woman in there has breast cancer except for the FEW frauds like me who are there to have a little old lumpectomy. I mean, really, put THAT into perspective for a minute. Once I met them they wanted to schedule surgery immediately (remember they deal with CANCER so most patients are in a hurry to get it out--I was FREAKED that they wanted to cut me in a few days....and I'm like, oh, I have too much to do, I have stamp camp, and report cards, and YIKES, can I schedule it in a month during spring break?, I was not the most cooperative patient.....) Dr. Spotts does her surgeries at Sunrise Hospital. That was quite an experience in and of itself. Nowadays when you preadmit they do an EKG and bloodwork, I went to do my paperwork and did not know that when I walked in the room they would tell me, "pull up your shirt" and go to town putting stuff on my chest, drawing blood, asking questions, etc. Normally when they want to work on you they say, "take off your shirt, etc., put on this drape," they close the door and give you privacy. NOT!! They left the door open, people were walking in and out, on this particular day I had worn a VERY cute bra (I have a penchant for very cute bras). This one is creme brulee' and kind of scrapbooky.... It has a floral design in tulip and sorbet with chocolate swirls and then other parts are tulip with creme brulee polka dots. People that were walking in and other asking questions, drawing blood and doing my EKG were commenting on my cute bra. HAD I been prepared for this it may have been more amusing as it is now but at the time I was mortified...... I mean, come on, people, where did the drapes go, did they give them up in the budget cuts or what???

Anyway, the end result is that my pathology results came back today BENIGN!! YEAH!! But the best thing is that I badger my friends to get their mammograms and I have had TWO friends (YEA Sue & Anj!) this week text me and report in that they have scheduled theirs so if you have scheduled yours! Please comment and let me know so I don't have to badger you! If you live in Vegas my doctor does NOT recommend LifeSigns or West Valley Imaging (she thinks West Valley Imaging is TOO aggressive with tests, she thinks they should've cut out my lump last year instead of running all the tests because she says 90% of the time they cut them out anyway (but then she's a surgeon and you known on Grey's Anatomy those surgeons just want to cut....), she recommends Desert Radiology (I don't, rude technicians) or Steinberg because they have digital mammograms). (That is assuming that you read to the very end of this very long.............. post!) <3I

The journaling is NOT shown on my personal layouts. My kids LOVE going to Floyd Lamb State Park. When we first started going there it was WAY out in the boondocks, far away from everything. Now it's hidden, surrounded by houses and hard to find. We used to drag my dad out there to feed the ducks everytime he came to visit. My kids always think of my dad when they feed ducks or go to that park.

I'm thinking that perhaps I am going to have to put some hidden journaling on the Ely, Nevada, layout. That trip was taken during a dark time in our lives. No wonder my kids don't look very happy. We love trains, all of us. We'd been wanting to go on that trip for a long time, BUT when we were ready to go everything went wrong--the best laid plans! The person we were going with had a disagreement with my oldest son from which my son hasn't ever really ever forgiven me for, our relationship hasn't been the same. THEY were both wrong. I was newly bifrocated (messy divorce) and didn't realize YET that when you are divorced and kids complain that the other side in an ugly divorce will feed on any complaints and egg them on and make the situation worse and compound any and all problems. When I look at photos of Tyler during that time he always looks so UNHAPPY, it breaks my heart. I rack my brain to see what I could've done to ease his way during those years. I was doing the best I could to raise four young children on my own, struggling through life as a single working Mom and I made a lot of mistakes, most of them on HIM as he is the oldest child. I've ALWAYS lived by the thought that you make the best of any situation. I probably should have cancelled the trip but plans were made and I thought they BOTH should have gotten over it, I was so WRONG. I wish I would've stayed home and done something else now, but I didn't and I can't change the fact now. The good thing about waiting to scrapbook events is that if you don't like the people you can either crop them out or leave out some of the pictures! LOL!!. It took me this long to scrapbook this trip because I do have some bad memories, maybe I shouldn't have scrapbooked the trip at all, but maybe my kids have a better memory of the event than I, perhaps I shouldn't journal MY memory of it at all. LOL!! That's why there isn't any journaling there.....

That person made ALL of us miserable for the entire trip, but you would THINK that the rest of us could enjoy ourselves and enjoy one selfish person?? We did have some fun MOMENTS. We swam in an indoor hotel pool and hot tubbed and watched a Will Smith movie in the hotel in Elko. We swam in another hotel pool in Ely. I remember me and my kids loading up the car by ourselves. You know that old saying about one spoiled apple?? One selfish person can sure put a damper on an entire trip. I've been on vacation with a lot of different friends as well as men that I've dated. It soon became one of my top criteria for men I would marry criteria. When I met Harry I made him go on a trip with us before I would marry him to see if he was fun on a vacation or not. He passed the test! Harry is very fun on vacations.

Sedona Stamp Camp Day 2

Day 2 of stamp camp started out with treats from Trish!! She made homemade brownies and had them packaged in personalized brown paper bags with Stamp Camp logo!! She is the bomb!! They were the best brownies EVER!! They were closed with the cutest clothespin!! She also made use cute gum wrappers!! Consultants also found a My Acrylix Organizer $12.95, 2 texture paper samplers, 2 packages of 6x6 memory protectors, $5.90, and a My Creations Memory Keeper, $6.95 (can you believe the price on that? What a steal)!!

Janice taught us how to organize our texture papers by color so we can mix and match our texture papers, we decorated the My acrylix organizer; Janet taught us a cool trifold and a magic card using verandah creative basics; Trish taught a Clearly Clever acrylic/chipboard album using Topstitch, and Anjanette taught us how to use paint and texture paper to cover a My Creations Memory Keeper using Caboodle. Here is a slideshow, I'll add pictures as I gather them:

We have a tradition started by Debra Almanza back in the beginning of stamp camp to have shake and breaks (I don't even remember who named it shake and break), she suggested we have movement activities to break up sitting all day and night. So now we have games that we play to get us up and moving. This year Janet had us do a relay with balls, Janice said her first thought was "how do I get out of it" but then she was a good sport and dreamed up a creative "glow in the dark" worm toss. Chris was alarmed when he saw the worm, he said, "What is that?" "Nevermind, I don't even want to know what you are going to do with that!" My team lost because I thought I was finished and was taking pictures and wasn't in my spot. The winners got gummy bears as a prize so I am in BIG trouble! Anjanette made us tie our legs together and chew a huge piece of gum and blow two bubbles before we got to the end of the line and then walk back still tied together blowing bubbles with bubble mix and a wand. My shake and break is also taken from Debra, for the last two years she broke us into teams and had us race around Embassy Suites taking photos of certain items (with all the team members doing crazy things). I am not sure Embassy Suites will be the same (ever). I took it a step further. I gave the gals one hour, split them into teams of two (two campers who didn't really know each other very well), and gave them a list of things in Sedona to take a photo with. The rules were simple--you had to take a GOOD photo (no heads cut off, it had to be scrap worth) with each item, with bonus points for certain items and one of the campers had to be in each photo. When they returned with the photos I made each camper create a layout in Studio J using the photos so that they will have a keepsake from Stamp Camp!! I am SO glad I did this because while they were creating they had questions that I was able to answer so it gave all of us extra practice with Studio J, plus we had a lot of fun racing around Sedona. They had to take a picture with the following items: Horse, UFO, Psychic, Vortex, Stairs, Lady of Sedona (bonus point); jeep (pink jeep bonus); running water; Art Fair; Rooster, Wooden Sculpture. I took the coaches to lunch today (my treat for all of their hard hard work planning and making table gifts and putting up with my craziness and endless "what do you think" and "what if we" and etc., for months. Chris recommended we go to the Hideaway an we would have NEVER found it without his recommendation, it is definitely HIDDEN. It has one wall that is entirely glass, you are hanging over a cliff with a FABUOUS view, awesome food at an incredible value. We LOVED IT!! We ordered a antipasto salad for one and all four of us shared it, the pizza was LOADED with toppings and the garlic bread was HUGE!! THANKS CHRIS!!

Trish scored again because she made us cute popcorn boxes and filled them with Chex mix for after lunch snack!!
We spent the rest of the day working on projects and finishing up our Studio J layouts.

Stamp Camp Sedona 2010 Day 1--Exploring

After our team meeting and working hard on fun projects,we went to pick up corn salsa and corn cake at Elote (Chris the hot front desk dude at the Hampton Inn told us we MUST try it and the wait is 1 1/2 hour so we called in our order). While I had prisoners in my Attitude truck (we had 30 minutes to waste while our order was being prepared), I saw this really cool shop, so I pulled in and made everyone get their photos taken with a HUGE rooster! They were my prisoners, you know!! This shop had the funnest items! You gotta stop and shop if you ever go to Sedona! Take photos if nothing else! AMAZING place!!

Here are the projects that Mandy,Tess and Elizabeth created. We worked on these projects for the rest of the evening and finishing up the projects from the morning. At the last moment Tess and Elizabeth had things come up that prevented them from attending Stamp Camp in person but they were good sports and sent their projects anyway! We missed them!! Mandy created the cute wooden/metal photo holder using Topstitch papers, mystickease, and suede pin wheels. Tess created a Matchbox cardholder and cards using Caboodle Level 2 paper. Elizabeth created an album using Verandah Level 2 papers.

The rest of the evening we spent getting trained using Studio J! I showed everyone how to hook up their TV to their computer to easily show their customers/team on the TV (so everyone can see the screen). I a Dell laptop (Vista) and I just bought a computer cord at Radio shak and put one end into my flat screen TV (yep I hauled it clear to Sedona, it's light and I actually haul it around my house and stamp room and watch DVD's anywhere I want, LOVE IT!) and the other end into my computer (the computer end has screws but the computer did not have screw holes, doesn't matter, just don't screw them in). Then change the input with your remote to PC. Worked like a charm, if it doesn't work for you, don't ask me how, I have NO IDEA, frankly I was amazed that it worked!!. :) Wireless internet was FREE at the hotel, so everyone that brought a laptop got to play with Studio J while I was demonstrating. It was great fun!!

Stamp Camp Sedona 2010 Day 1

Our team celebrated our 14th Annual Stamper's with an Attitude Team Retreat in Sedona, AZ.

Consultants from Kansas, Nevada, and Arizona met in Sedona, AZ, for the weekend at Hampton Inn. I can't say enough good things about this hotel! I booked it sight unseen and was a bit frightened about the fact. I discussed it with my stamp camp coaches and we decided to go on pure faith from the pictures on their website and our experience with Hampton Inns. The room we usually get in Flagstaff was booked, this room was the same size and half the price so we jumped on it. We decided to go on an adventure and explore Sedona!! We are super glad we did.

The staff was super friendly!! When I walked in the front door (at 11:00 p.m) the front desk clerk (Chris) asked me, "Are you Kim?" I said, "YES, why? Do I have a bad rep already?" He laughed, and said, "No, I've just been expecting you." He showed me a map and told me where all the stamp camp girls were staying, told me he liked my truck, to get in my "attitude" truck (apparently he checked out my license plate), told me where to park, where our meeting room was, etc. The girls were amazed the next day because he remembered our names. He continued to baby us the whole weekend by making us chocolate chip cookies and setting aside plates of cookies for us and delivering them to our meeting room, giving suggestions for our photo scavenger hunt, and places to eat. Robert, the desk clerk on duty when we left, told us that all the staff enjoyed our visit, especially Chris--LOL!! We enjoyed our time with them as well.

We start the camp with a team meeting where we do introductions, an on time drawing, recognition, business card drawing, on time drawing, card exchange and a business meeting. Here are the two winning cards. My card won (hollyhock), but I feel bad about that because I copied/altered/stamp lifted Lisa Steinz's card because I TOTALLY loved it and then it WON!! So I gave the prize to 2nd place, Janice Hodgkin (Love)

I bring lots of prizes--the girls love prizes. I give out tickets for random wacky things like if you are wearing a toe ring (remnant from a Dallas convention where they held me down and put a toe ring on me, now you have to wear one to CTMH events to earn tickets) as well as business builders like participating in the card exchange, wearing logo wear, meeting minimums, adding a team member, etc. We do drawings all weekend long.

We also do a gift exchange. The gift exchange is optional. Everyone brings up to three handmade gifts made with Close to My Heart products and I put them all in brown paper bags and staple them shut so no one knows who brought what, they put a ticket for each gift they brought into a basket and throughout the weekend I randomly pull names out to choose a bag, this is one of their favorite parts of stamp camp.

Then I taught a gift certificate holder designed by Pam O'Conner using Topstitch paper packet as well as a MY CTMH Journal designed by Pam.

The manager's got to go to lunch with me (my treat) as a special reward for being in management. We went to the Barking Frog (there IS such a thing as a barking frog). It was VERY yummy! We tried fried Prickly Pear Cactus (it is the consistency of boiled okra but tangy) dipped in Prickly Pear sauce. The food was extra yummy!!

Sue is a Sr. Executive Manager, Janice is an Executive Manger--Way to go Ladies!! We had a nice lunch talking about our businesses and our teams!! I appreciate their support and business heads! They love their teams! :) I feel blessed to work with such fabulous women!

Adventures with Reinkers and dying Just Blooms Flowers

I know how to dye flowers using reinkers......technically speaking that is..... LOL!!

I decided that I knew how, I've seen it done, so OF COURSE I can just whip up some watermelon flowers to match the name tags on our name tags, right?

The first batch I used straight reinker, they were VERY dark.

The second batch I used 99% alcohol mixed into a spray bottle with reinker, it makes the color of the spray very "floresent" and it dries very quickly!!

And I also tried mixing water with the reinker in the paint tray that comes in the distressing kit.

ALL versions worked, and they all worked on both the Just Blooms flowers as well as the Spring Blossoms. I did, however, have a hard time making the same shade over and over, so if you want a LOT of the same shade of flowers, you are going to need to mix a lot at once. Start with a lot of water or alocohol and a little reinker and keep adding reinker until you have the shade you want.

Make sure you use the 99% alcohol, it comes in two concentrations at the store. The 99% is more expensive (not expensive, I think I paid $2.29) than the 70%!

Tonight I am on my way to our 14th annual Retreat. This year it's in Sedona Arizona. I've never been there, I am SO excited to go. Trish, one of my favorite (I have LOTS) team members made us awesome shirts, I made the name tags to coordinate (that's why I was dying flowers), I can't wait to see these awesome friends/team members and to share in their talents!! BRING ON THE FUN!!

I am SO BLESSED and LUCKY to have these ladies in my life. I feel so humble and unworthy to be the leader of such a talented, awesome team! ALL of these ladies are dedicated, talented, creative, and inspiring!! They support me and teach me every day!

I SO appreciate the effort team members makes make time and time again to attend stamp camp. I know that they all have trials and struggling in their lives. Perhaps no one else knows the effort they go through each year to come, but I know because I hear each of their stories. The struggles and challenges they face are all different, all real, and all heartbreaking. I know it would be easy for each and everyone of them to say, "Sorry, I can't make it this year, because of my situation" (not that their situations aren't very real and challenging). My point is that they make the sacrifice--they make the choice every one of these ladies worked HARD, they made the CHOICE to come to stamp camp, leave their families, take time away from their busy lives, they made the huge effort, followed my list of endless RULES with a smile, so that everything can be equal!! It is my hope that this choice pays off to enrich their business and their life by giving them the tools they need to go home prepared and refreshed and rejuvenated until the next event! Everything in life is CHOICES, sacrifices, and priorities. I appreciate the choice they made to come! THANKS SO MUCH LADIES!! Hunter's Lucky his Mom is a scrapbooker

Hunter is in the sixth grade in all accelerated classes. Many, many times I ask myself, WHY are my children in all accelerated classes? They have SO much homework! I absolutely HATE projects and middle school seems to be riddled with projects. When I FIRST started teaching and I was young and naive and had NO children of my own, I assigned projects, however, as soon as I had my own children and realized the horrors of homework and projects, I STOPPED doing them. It is my belief that when you grade a child on homework, you are grading his parents. Yep, because the kids that get the good grades are the kids whose parents do the homework with them, feeding them the answers, and do the projects, just like the science projects that are beautiful and WIN, and the pinewood derby cards that are perfect, fast, and WIN. Well, I am NOT that Mom, I think the kids should do it, so of course, my kids cars never win, their science projects are never beautiful, AND we fight about homework for hours every night, ESPECIALLY Hunter, the poor kid has glasses, braces, ADHD, and ODD..... Life is a challenge, being Hunter's Mom is a challenge, every day, almost every minute, and sometimes it's heaven.......sometimes.....

He has this ONE teacher, now mind you, I am not especially fond of MOST of his teachers, but this ONE, and of course he has her for not one, but TWO periods, likes to assign these crazy projects. This month ONE of the projects is to read a biography or fictional book and make and pack a small cardboard box suitcase that the person you read about would take on a trip. It needs to include the following: A luggage tag that has the person's name, address, and destination written on it. Memorabilia to decorate the outside of the suitcase such as bumper stickers or mementos from previous trips. Ten items that the character would pack. A brief explanation of why your person chose to pack each item.....

Hunter, of course, wanted a huge box. I finally convinced him to print out pictures of the items to pack, NOT THE ACTUAL items, and we decorated a pencil box using That's Amore Level II paper (he never thought I would have a masculine paper--LOL!!), Dimensional elements monograms, we even put "feet" on the bottom of the box using bigger brads, and photo hangers on the top and chocolate ribbon from the designer ribbon rounds for the handle. We stamped "Tough as Nails" by the monograms and put a postcard from Yellowstone on the back because the character from the book is from Wyoming. I had some fun luggage tags laying around that I had purchased from Target a few summers ago for the kids luggage and never used. When he was done, Hunter was proud of himself and happy that his mom is so cool and scrapbooks. Now, hopefully he won't get in trouble for having his character "pack" a PPW (Personal Protection Weapon)--tazer......

Hunter also had his "puberty" exam today. The reason I share this is because I just LOVE my pediatricians!! Henderson Pediatrics, Dr. Kulic and Dr. Levin. None of my other children had this 11-year-old well check, but Dr. Kulic (woman) did have a discussion with Kassidy when she got shots two summers ago and Dr. Levin (man) had the same type of discussion with Hunter today. Basically about drugs, alcohol, eating healthy, abstinence, etc. LOVED what they had to say! They are very frank, yet sensitive. They have Saturday and Sunday morning SICK hours and I can't say enough good things about their office (it's even close by!). So if you live in the Henderson area and are looking for rockin peds, look them up!! Hunter screamed for 15 minutes when he heard he was getting FIVE shots, but the nurses were so nice, they assured me that 95% of 11 year olds react the same way and they hurried and got the shots, as soon as he got them, he settled down because they realized they weren't as bad as he was imagining...... (add another reason to my list that I'm glad I'm NOT a nurse) Thank heavens I only have one more child that gets to turn 11.....

Blair got to design her class ring online and we went to a meeting and had it sized and ordered it tonight. Class rings have really changed since I was in high school about ten or so years ago--LOL! They had several that looked like birthstones and although they were pretty I tried to steer her toward one that at least looked like a class ring instead of a birthstone. This is part of her Sweet 16 birthday present. She chose the stones green (her favorite color), and diamond (her birthstone). I let her drive home. I must say, I like it a lot better when she drives Harry around instead of me..... I was STRESSED even though she did nothing wrong... Love ya, Blair!!

Happy Sweet 16th Kidnap Pajama Birthday Party!

After trying to figure out how to have a birthday party for an ALL girl sweet sixteen party, we finally settled on a Kidnap Breakfast. I called all the girl's moms to tell them we would be kidnapping them at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning and taking them to breakfast at IHOP and then back to our house to make journals and cake and ice cream.

The Moms were very cooperative and fun and did not tell their daughters that we were coming and made sure they were all dressed in modest pajamas so they would not be embarrassed when a gaggle of girls burst into their bedroom to kidnap them.

We went to IHOP where the birthday party sat at one table and the family members at another. We went back to our house to make journals. The journal example I had was designed by my team member Pam O'Conner. ALL of the journals turned out differently. The girl's definitely have their own ideas and differences and you can tell by the journals.

The cake was designed and made by a friend Liz Sherman's sister, Anna Juarez. Anna makes yummy, gorgeous, one-of-a-kind cakes. All I did was tell her I wanted a Sweet Sixteen cake and told her what we were doing for the party. She did an awesome job of coming up with the idea and adding fun details that she imagined Kassidy/Blair would like, adding Twilight posters and even a picture of the journal we made on the bed. The girl's LOVED the cake and were arguing about who got to eat the TV, the slippers, the bedframe, the bed, the posters, etc., it was a riot!! Thanks so much to Liz and April for working so hard on the cake and making it fabulous!!

Then the girl's watched New Moon and we took them home with their journals!

Veranda Level 2 Scrapbook Class

Monday, March 1 is the last day to register to attend this class at my home on Thursday, March 11, 6:30 p.m. (Scroll down to the bottom of the post to see a slideshow of all four pages).

I love the colors in the Veranda kit (Creme Brulee, Cocoa, Garden Green, Juniper). They are gorgeous for a number of occasions. I used the papers this month to scrapbook a huge variety of memories, ME, my grandmother, and my "nieces" wedding. But really they are all around all occasion papers.

I chose to use the Level 2 papers to scrapbook memories of my Grandmother because it had hummingbirds that she LOVES so the papers reminded me of her and because these particular pictures I took the flowers around her home were in full bloom. I took these photos last May when we were in New Mexico visiting my family. I keep trying to remember to take photos of my children with their grandparents and great grandmother so that they can have keepsakes! I've known for a long time that my grandmother could pass away any time but what I realized was that I don't have photos of her home or of the things in her home that remind me of her and my grandfather. So I walked around and took photos of all the things that brought back memories of them and my childhood. These items are featured on these pages along with my memories and the reasons these everyday items are special to me!

Veranda Level 1 Scrapbook Class

I procrastinated finishing these layouts because when I saw the big ME on the MyStickease I had a rebellious streak come out and thought, YUCK, EWW, I don't want to scrapbook PICTURES of me! I want a new body, I want a new face, Heck, I want a new everything! LOL!!

Once I got past that (and it took a couple of weeks), I took a REAL look at the my stickease and started thinking about what makes me smile. In the meantime my upline's father died and my father was diagnosed with renal cancer. Attending the viewing, I was shocked that her father looked so old, he's aged a lot in the 18 years I've known her, EIGHTEEN years, I realized HEY, I'M GETTING OLD!!! Both events made me reflect on my children and what they will remember about me! I certainly hope they forget A LOT! My cousin Samantha died last year and I visit her blog and her FB and I know her sister's do as well, we like to remember her words and we feel close to her when we do, these My Stickease will help my kids remember what makes me ME when I'm not in the room with them. So once I adjusted my attitude and realized ALL the photos didn't need to be ME, I fell in LOVE with the idea of these pages that's when it got FUN!!

I had such a good time and such a great response to my Valentine wood block class that I thought I would offer an Easter wood block class and the Caboodle papers were my favorite easter choice from the Spring/Summer catalog this year. I used Sorbet, Sweet Leaf, and Crystal Blue Ink, Caboodle Level 2 Paper Pack, Sorbet Designer Ribbon Round, Spring Blossom Just Blooms Paper Flowers, Winter Craft Buttons, Dimensional elements alphabets, and Crystal Blue & Sorbet Waxy Flax.

While I was working this sign came down the stairwell....... (because I had just finished a workshop and the children had been warned not to interrupt because they had had dinner AND desert).....
Hunter apparently thinks he is very ingenious--the cord is a computer network cord, I hope no one upstairs NEEDS it. Apparently I need to let Hunter know that interruptions are not always VERBAL!! (But secretly I laughed)

Recipe Box

I am becoming the queen of modge podge! (In my world that would mean that I am actually MODGE PODGING!) Mandy would be so proud of me! (That so totally reminds me of that I'm smashing up a baby bumblebee song we sing in kindergarten... LOL!) The second receipe holder Tanya Cook made at a workshop at my house, I love her take using the SAME papers, it turned out SO cute!

I got these cute recipe boxes with recipe card holders from Keri Petit a LOOOONG time ago, I think I still lived in Summerlin, and I am finally getting around to having a class on how to alter them to match your kitchen decor. I used Boomdiada to make mine match my kitchen because I am painting my family room wall that adjoins the kitchen a new color (to match Samantha's couch) SOMEDAY and it coordinates with boomdiada.

I remembered a modge podge tip I learned a LONG time ago that makes it go so much better! Cover the area that you want covered with paper with modge podge, then place the paper face down inside a magazine or catalog, cover the wrong side with modge podge, place it in place (it will be very SLICK and easy to place and slide around, THEN press into place and press out all the bubbles, then cover with modge podge again going over only once or twice (as few times as possible on top). Then turn the page of the magazine and repeat (so the modge podge doesn't get on anything).

Wooden Calendars

These fun wooden calendars were designed for our team holiday stamp camp by Mandy Grover. I finally stopped procrastinated and finished mine. One is made with Boom di ada paper for my scrapbook room and the other for my family room in Blue Ribbon. You simply turn the wooden block to match the day of the month. At stamp camp we used the stamp set Giggles to make each month's name but now Close to My Heart has new Month Set with each Month's name that fit PERFECTLY on the wood block--YIPPEE!! These examples show the new stamp sets January and February.

I made these cute layouts of my sweet Blair in 1998/99 when she was just 4/5..... She hated combing her hair, wearing shoes, and dresses! LOL!! So I definitely cherish these beautiful photos of her. They were SO easy to do with a Level 1 paper packet and My Stickease, I just made the layouts featured on the back of the My Stickease package, how much easier does it get than that! And they were SO FAST and easy!!

Valentine Wood Blocks

These fun wood blocks feature That's Amore Level 2 paper pack, That's Amore My Stickease, dimensional elements alphabet, and our new Antique Copper Mini Medley My Accents collection, Chocolate Ink, Colonial White Ribbon Rounds, Chocolate Ribbon Rounds, and Basic Collection of Buttons. I used Liquid Glass as the adhesive and put a layer of liquid glass on the V to make it stand out.

Sticky Boy

When Close to My Heart came out with acrylic stamps, they showed us this video of the tests they performed on the stamp. The original sticky boy design was drawn by Jeanette's husband, David, as a joke and she put it in the catalog. Unfortunately the stamp is no longer available, but they hide sticky boy stamps all around events and if you are lucky, and look closely, you can find one and take it home. Topstitch Level 1 Kit

I teach this class as a beginning scrapbook class. Ages 14 and over are invited to attend. You need to simply prepay for the class in advance, $15.00. The Level 1 Kit is $9.95 plus tax and shipping and you'll also receive a few embellishments that I added to my layouts.

I created these layouts for my daughter, Kassidy's school of life pages from 1997. Since the photos are NOT digital and I don't want to try to find the negatives, I just used the photos the sizes they were and made do. I'm all about making scrapbooking as easy as possible.

I added some die cut letters, a small piece of baby pink ribbon and four brads. That's it and I had a lot of stickers and paper left over!

To duplicate these layouts at home you would need to add brads, baby pink ribbon, and your choice of dimensional elements die cuts. When you attend at my home, these items are provided for you!
